Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the protective effect of binahong leave extract [Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis] on renal histopathological damage of rat (Rattus norvegicus strain wistar) that caused by borax. 24 male rats (Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar) aged 3 month with body weight (BW) 200 g were used as animals model. These animals were divided into six groups (P0-, P0+Bor, P0+Bin, P1, P2, dan P3). P0- were sterile aquadest 0,5 ml/rats/day + CMC Na liquid 1%, P0+Bor were CMC Na liquid 1% + borax 157 mg/rats/day, P0+Bin were 50mg/kg BW + steril aquadest P1 were binahong extract 50mg/kg BW + borax 157 mg/rats/day, P2 were binahong extract 100mg/kg BW + borax 157 mg/rats/day, and P3 were binahong extract 200mg/kg BW + borax 157 mg/rats/day. This research has been conducted for 14 days to determine the protective effects of binahong extract on the renal damage that caused by borax toxicity. The data were compared using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test. The result showed that borax have significantly caused haemorrhage, degeneration, necrosis and glomerulonephritis on renal histopathology and binahong extract didn’t give significant protective effect on renal histopathology (p<0,05).
